BuLLY BREED EDUCATION
Negative media portrayals of pit bull-type dogs in the 1980s and 1990s created an unfair stigma against them and led to discriminatory laws in many places in the U.S. More recently, positive portrayals in social media and elsewhere have improved perceptions and many pit bull bans have been overturned.
Prince George’s County - For nearly 30 years, Prince George’s County, Maryland had a ban on pit bulls, preventing them from legally living in the community. Recently that ban was overturned, which was a big win for pit bull advocates.
Washington DC - In many places, renters struggle to find housing with their pets due to restrictions on the type of breed allowed in rental communities. Washington DC recently passed legislation — called Roscoe’s Law or the Pets in Housing Act (B25-0827) — that prohibits landlords and property managers from imposing pet restrictions on breed, weight or size.
